Official Music Partner for Birmingham Design Festival 2024
We are excited to announce we are the official music partner for this year’s Birmingham Design Festival.
Music, design and art are intrinsically linked in many ways, but primarily by their ability to evoke, provoke and inspire emotional reaction and connection. We believe they are one of the same thing and completely inseparable, so when the opportunity to work with the BDF team presented itself we grabbed it with both hands.
BDF takes place over three days between 6 – 8th June and the theme this year is Process.
Visitors can expect to choose from 20 free talks per day from world class speakers over four Design Districts, before coming together in the evening for a headline event in one of the larger venues.
In addition to talks, there’s a plethora of workshops, exhibitions, design tours, screenings and more to enjoy across the three days.
If you’re lucky enough to go, listen out for us.
"really cool, I’m glad I found them"
Simone Marie Butler - Primal Scream
"far out celestial vibes"
Lee Scratch Perry - Legend
What Would it Feel Like to be Free 2024 - Out Now!
“Art is never finished, only abandoned” – Leonard Da Vinci.
At the backend of 2017 Lions of Dissent released their debut EP – What Would it Feel Like to be Free. Within 6 months the group exploded into technicolour life! Selling out back-to-back gigs in 2 different cities, plays on BBC 6 Music, championed by Lee Scratch Perry and a raft of worldwide press coverage and radio play. Despite this no singles were ever released off the recording, and it was subsequently abandoned. Until now.
Some things are better second time around.
Fast forward nearly 7 years and the group embarked upon and completed a full polyphonic reinvention of the original recording. Expect the existing soul to be amplified with new elements, melody, reinvented artwork, and a full sonic remaster.
On release this record was a distress signal from earth, a siren that rings even louder today than it did then.
So, here we are again, this time with an amplified voice – What Would it Feel Like to be Free 2024.
LoD Gallery
"They produce soaring, melodic impassioned indie/psych/dance anthems. Influences may flit in and out of their sound yet they don’t really fit neatly into any obvious musical genre box"
Andy Von Pip – The VPME
"This is ecstatic sonic dope to get eight miles high to, this is delirious intoxication taking you to never-never land. The sky is not the limit! Just open the doors of perception!"
Jean-Luc - Turn up the Volume

Background:
Lions of Dissent is an evolving vision. A singular planet orbiting in its own sphere.
Transmitting their own brand of sound and vision for the best part of a decade, the creative collective appears and disappears, circling around its own orbital plane. Active when they choose to be, reactive when it counts.
With a rolling past membership of 15, LoD return with the core unit of 4 that has guided and propelled the group from inception back in 2015.
"authentic dub stylings, surprisingly hail not from Kingston, but Wolverhampton"
Tom Robinson – BBC 6 Music
